Chivalry
Chivalry is described as the medieval knightly system which is composed of a combination of qualities an ideal knight should have such as; courage, honor, courtesy, justice, and devotion. Although the Knight in Chaucer's tale shows excellent chivalry, the Squire does not. Although the Squire is very talented and bright, he focuses on sexual activities rather than knightly ones. His Father was an excellent warrior and what inspired him was God. However, the only thing that inspires the Squire is women. The line, "He loved so hotly that till dawn grew pale," shows how he spends his nights and explains why he rarely sleeps. Although the Squire is respectable and charming, he does not show the chivalric characteristics that his Father does.
